If
you have a baby girl, you may be tempted to put fingernail polish
on her for pictures or just to make her look pretty. It is okay
to do this, but it is often better to wait until the baby is older
than six months. You should use the safest fingernail polish you
can find (look in the little girls’ makeup section at your
local drugstore), and use one that does not chip too easily.
It is also best to apply the fingernail polish
to your baby’s fingernails and toenails while they are sleeping.
Most likely, when she sees the polish on her nails, she will immediately
want to put them in her mouth (since babies are very flexible, applying
polish only to toenails doesn’t always prevent this, either).
This is the main reason it is best to apply fingernail polish on
babies while they are sleeping. By the time they wake up, the nails
will be dry and you don’t have to worry about ingestion of
the polish. Doing this is also beneficial to the way that the polish
looks when finished.
