While
all parents try extremely hard to prevent diaper rash, it will often
occur anyway. There are a few things you can do that will help with
prevention, as well as a few causes of diaper rash that you may
not be aware of.
To prevent diaper rash, you will need to use the
most absorbent diaper possible on your baby. This does not mean
that you should leave the diaper on any longer than you would if
it was less absorbent, but that it will keep the moisture off baby’s
skin in the meantime.
The best ways to prevent diaper rash are to change
baby immediately after urination or a bowel movement, as well as
to apply a preventative cream after every change. This can be diaper
rash ointment or even Vaseline. Anything that keeps moisture off
baby’s skin will work.
It is also important to know that if your baby
has diarrhea, the likelihood of diaper rash occurrence increases
dramatically. A good deterrent for this is to leave the diaper off
baby for as long as possible as often as possible, as well as keeping
preventative ointments on the baby anytime a diaper must be worn.
