Babies and Eating
When
a baby turns four months old, you are able to finally feed him solids.
Solids at this age, however, means jarred baby food (or baby food
made at home). As your baby gets older, and grows teeth, you can
move him up to slightly chunkier food, and then later you will be
able to feed him table food.
During this time of progression, you will be
able to begin feeding him foods from the table at an earlier time.
Things like mashed potatoes (as long as they are mashed really well
or are instant potatoes) can be fed to a baby that is eating mainly
level one baby food (the most smooth baby food possible).
As your baby begins to get more teeth, you will
be able to give him small bites of other table foods, such as small
noodles and other soft foods that can be gummed when necessary.
By the time most babies are a year old, they are able to eat most
foods that adults eat, with the exception of really tough foods,
like some meats.
